Find out what it takes to protect your business, website, online & digital content, your client relationships, income streams, and intellectual property, and put a plan in place to support your business as you scale.
No more piecing together random contracts from other entrepreneurs or (sigh), the internet. No more relying on the fact that you “have such great clients”. No more waiting “until there is a problem.” No more relying on Google for your legal advice. And no more playing an attorney on t.v., or in your business.
No more sleepless nights or carrying the weight of unnecessary weight of worry. No more wondering what will happen if you don’t handle legal. Because now you’ve decided to handle it. You crave a new level of leadership, one with legal in place that supports your growth.
This Strategy Session is dedicated to helping you understand the legal landscape for entrepreneurs and small businesses in the US, and better understand the legal needs of your unique business in the context of the whole legal picture that is relevant for you given the specific activities you are engaged in through your work and the various ways your provide your services and information to the world.
So may entrepreneurs end up “cherry picking” their legal solutions because they don’t have the map.
They don’t know how to prioritize their various legal needs because very few attorneys are able to sit down and comprehensively cover all of the risk areas faced by small businesses: from business formation issues, to contractual needs, to intellectual property, to online privacy and advertising issues … there is a lot to think about. Most attorneys focus their practices on specific “areas of law.” Family law. Bankruptcy. Litigation.
I focus on a specific type of client: information entrepreneurs. Online coaches, consultants, experts, educators, speakers and authors.
Without starting with this comprehensive session, too often these type of entrepreneurs and clients are trying to determine their own legal needs in the context of an information vacuum – i.e. they “don’t know what they don’t know” when it comes to legal – and it results in a lengthier and more expensive process overall on their journey to get their legal needs met because clients have not properly prioritized their legal needs. This is an easy mistake to make in the absence of some essential legal education relevant to their business.
To fill this gap, and to help my clients avoid unnecessary heartache, we begin with a Business Risk Strategy Session. We will walk through your business together and lay the foundation that is required for you to understand your array of legal needs, where to start, how to prioritize what comes next so that you have solutions in place that are right for you and your stage of business, and will support you as you scale or prepare to scale.
For clients making up to $700,000 per year in annual gross revenue, the assessment is priced at $2,497.
For clients making between $700,000 and $1,500,000 per year in annual gross revenue, the assessment is priced at $3,497.
And for clients making more than $1,500,000 per year in annual gross revenue, the assessment is $4997.
This is because the larger the business, the larger the assessment, and the greater the legal needs. This allows us time to walk through everything you are doing in your business so that we can create a terrific “map” for you that is as comprehensive as possible. This will allow you to move forward with ease and confidence that not only are you taking care of your legal priorities, but that you are doing so efficiently and in the right order based on your current business activities and your highest priorities and goals.
We typically “fill gaps” first, from a strategic standpoint, and then move on to what is coming next in your business and preparing the legal foundation that will allow you to evolve and scale.
If you wish to proceed with a Business Risk Assessment and Legal Roadmap Strategy Session, please purchase (or make a down payment) using the link on this page. We will collect more information, and documentation from you through the questionnaire and intake process, and based on your income level, you may have a second payment to complete before we get started.
This allows me to collect the information the I need to be able to complete a detailed assessment of your business.
I then review the information that you submit, and prepare for our Legal Roadmap Strategy Session together.
In that session we walk through the information you have provided, cover any questions that we both have, and I provide analysis across various portions of a framework (or system) I have developed for assessing businesses that I serve. (This is the Business Risk Assessment part). We cover five important areas that require coverage, and discuss what your priorities are likely to be given the information we have reviewed. This is where we start to build your Legal Roadmap for your business. I discuss options in the marketplace so you have an understanding of the various ways you might meet your needs, and make recommendations based upon a variety of factors: your budget, your plans for growth, any significant legal gaps we identify, and your own priorities for your business.
Following our session, I prepare a detailed written report that documents what we covered together, and provides an outline or “legal roadmap” of the legal needs in your business. This is a report that walks through each of the areas I reference above in my 5-Bucket Framework for Legal Success in Business. It allows you to make decisions that will best serve you as you grow, and that will help you to achieve your priorities with confidence, knowing that you have all the relevant information, and are not making decisions out of order or without knowing your full list of priorities and the legal ramifications for those priorities. And it is a “map” that you can revisit time and again as your business continues to evolve.
This report includes recommendations for next steps, including how we might work together in achieving your goals. There are a variety of ways that I support my clients, and I always aim for efficiency, matching solutions to client needs (there is no one-size fits all), and transformation through legal support. Where appropriate, I also provide information about other options in the marketplace. I care that businesses get their needs met in the way that is best for them. If I can be a part of that, great! And if I can help match a client to a better solution, I am thrilled to do that as well. I have an amazing network, and am always expanding it as I grow my own business as well.
This is a final opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have after receiving the written report. It is also where we discuss next steps for your business. I want to make sure that my clients are clear on their strategy, their priorities given the unique needs of their businesses and plans for growth in the coming year, and that if they need any additional support that I can provide, we discuss those options as well.
As one client said: “I would have paid you 3 or 4 times what you charged me for this service.”
And another, when I asked him how he felt after we completed services: “Like you removed a 50 lb backpack I didn’t know I’ve been carrying around for years.” (Followed by a big SIGH).
Or as another client said: “I feel so clear. This went way beyond my expectations of what I thought I’d get.”
And another: “Now I feel super confident.”
Peace of mind. That is what I want for you. Confidence and peace of mind.
Of course, please contact me if you have any questions, or are trying to determine whether this service is a fit for your business. I am happy to help get you pointed in the right direction, and provide alternatives based on your needs. If this service is not a fit for your business, I will tell you that also.
The Business Risk Assessment & Legal Roadmap Strategy Session usually takes place over several weeks. Between reviewing the initial questionnaire, preparing for our time together, and then conducting the follow up, it usually takes several weeks start to finish.
There are no refunds available for this service. Please contact me if you have any questions before you purchase.
The types of clients that this service is a fit for generally have numerous things happening in their business: a variety of ways that they deliver information and services, a robust online business, plans for growth if they are not already rapidly scaling, and a gap in their legal foundation.
Many entrepreneurs in the online space feel like they are “playing catch-up” with their legal needs and want an attorney to take a comprehensive look at their business with them, in a way that is efficient, concise and clear. This service is for these entrepreneurs who are ready to lead their business at a higher level with a new level of legal support built in.
While I can provide a fair amount of support, a bit like “in-house legal counsel”, there are certain legal issues I would not be able to handle directly. Anything involving state law (like employment issues, local regulatory compliance, or litigation). This service is designed to give you a 20,000 foot view of your business, the legal components required to build a solid foundation, and a map that will help guide you up the mountain as you climb, and scale your business.
What you don’t know {legally} can hurt you. Get your legal roadmap for your business now so you can do what you love, with less risk. All while accelerating your growth.
